The Disappearing Edge

All Custom Ear, Noses and Orbital Prostheses are made with a medical-grade silicone; and all Custom Prosthetic Eyes and Scleral Shells are made with medical-grade acrylic. These high-quality materials are essential in crafting facial prostheses that appear most beautiful and life-like.

David Trainer, our lead Maxillofacial Prosthetist, was instrumental in the recent development of the “Disappearing Edge”. This innovative method creates an ultra-fine edge that ensures each custom prosthesis discretely blends into the skin, with  “barely a seam”.

Patients are referred to the Center due to numerous causes, such as cancer and trauma. Also, some children are born with congenital malformations such as Microtia, Treacher Collins, or Golden Haar syndromes.

With a combined experience of over 50 years, our Maxillofacial Prosthetic team is able to provide our patients with state-of-the-art technologies to the highest degree of excellence. We coordinate with Physicians and Specialists to achieve the best possible results for our patients.

We also work directly with the Veterans Administration (VA) to provide custom Facial Prostheses for US Veterans. Many of our Veteran patients are not aware that the VA will cover 100% of the fee of the Facial Prostheses.  It’s a more simple and hassle-free process than you might expect. Please give us a call if you have any questions, and we will ensure you get the quality of care you deserve!

Our Process

The Center for Custom Prosthetics specializes in the provision of a full custom facial prosthetic service

Our process includes complete prosthetic clinical assessment from impression-taking, sculpture and fitting of Ocular, Orbital, Ear Prostheses, and Maxillofacial Prosthetics associated with Osseo-integrated implantology.

We guide the patient through each individual step of the process, which allows the patient to become an integral part of the process of making a Custom Made Prosthesis.

The patient is instructed in the care and handling of their prosthesis and are given the appropriate materials for the prosthesis.
