Custom auricular prosthetics are made for patients who have lost part or all of an ear due to cancer surgery, trauma, or congenital conditions like microtia (where the ear is underdeveloped or absent at birth). A prosthesis restores facial symmetry and provides a structure for eyeglasses, masks, and earrings.
Two attachment methods are available. Most patients use medical-grade skin adhesive applied daily. Patients who want a more secure connection can have craniofacial implants surgically placed; the prosthesis is then retained by magnets or clips, eliminating daily adhesive.
A silicone auricular prosthesis typically lasts 1 to 3 years with proper care. The fine sculpted edges and surface coloring wear over time from daily handling and skin oils. We schedule maintenance visits to refurbish, recolor, and replace as needed.

The standard fitting process takes four visits: impression of the ear area, hand-sculpting in wax to match your contralateral ear or facial proportions, intrinsic coloring blended into the silicone, and final extrinsic coloring with delivery and fitting instruction.
Remove the prosthesis nightly, gently clean both the prosthesis and the skin underneath with mild soap and water, and store it flat in a clean dry case. Avoid solvents and alcohol wipes, which break down the silicone. We provide detailed care instructions at delivery and schedule routine maintenance visits.
