Yes. Every prosthesis is hand-sculpted to your anatomy and individually pigmented to match your skin or remaining eye under different lighting. The Disappearing Edge technique blends the silicone into the skin so the result reads as natural anatomy. Patients regularly report that friends and even medical professionals cannot detect the prosthesis.
Most facial prosthetics are attached with medical-grade skin adhesive applied daily. For patients who want a more secure long-term connection, craniofacial implants can be surgically placed; the prosthesis is then retained by magnets or clips. We discuss both options during your consultation.

An ocular prosthesis is a full custom artificial eye fitted after the eye has been surgically removed (enucleation or evisceration). A scleral shell is an ultra-thin custom cover designed to fit over a blind or disfigured eye that is still in the socket, restoring symmetry without any tissue removal.
An ocular prosthesis is an artificial eye fitted into a socket where only the eye was removed. An orbital prosthesis is needed when the eye, eyelids, and surrounding tissue have all been removed (exenteration); it restores the entire ocular region with a removable acrylic eye set into silicone that matches the surrounding skin.
Lifespans vary by prosthesis type. Ocular prosthetics typically last 3 to 5 years. Ear prosthetics last 1 to 3 years. Nasal prosthetics last 6 months to 1 year. Orbital prosthetics last 1 to 2 years. Daily care and routine professional maintenance extend lifespan significantly.
Remove the prosthesis as recommended for your type, gently clean with mild soap and water, and store flat in a clean dry case. Avoid solvents, alcohol wipes, and abrasive cleaners. We provide written care instructions at delivery and schedule routine maintenance visits.
Signs to schedule a refit include new tearing or mucous discharge (ocular), edge wear or color shift (silicone prosthetics), looser adhesive retention, or new discomfort. Significant weight changes or surgical changes to the area also affect fit. Plan on a maintenance visit if anything no longer feels or looks as it did at delivery.
Yes. We specialize in pediatric facial prosthetics for children with microtia, Goldenhar Syndrome, Treacher Collins Syndrome, atresia, Hemi-Facial Microsomia, and post-enucleation cases. We use a gentle, family-centered approach and accommodate growth by enlarging existing prostheses when possible.
Yes. We are a VA-approved provider. The Veterans Administration covers 100% of the cost of custom ocular, ear, nasal, orbital, and pediatric (CHAMPVA) prosthetics for eligible veterans and dependents. We coordinate the authorization and billing paperwork directly with your VA medical center.
